Almost EUR 69 million from the Cohesion Fund will be invested in new facilities to collect and treat wastewater in Slovenia, the European Commission announced.

The funds will be used to upgrade water management networks in Ljubljana and the towns of Medvode and Vodice, the European Commission said in a statement.

It added that 310,000 citizens living in the area will benefit from a modern and extended waste water treatment system.

The project includes the construction of 131 km of sewage networks.

This EU co-financed project will also contribute to protecting the groundwater and reducing pollution in the region.

Recently, the European Commission has announced that total of EUR 266 million from the EU Cohesion Fund will be invested in four major water infrastructure projects in Romania.

Croatia has as well secured total of EUR 225 million from the EU funds for eight water infrastructure projects.
