Croatian electric power company, Hrvatska elektropriveda (HEP), plans to strengthen cooperation with French power company EDF, Croatian press reported.

The two companies plan to sign a cooperation agreement in the area of smart grids, smart meters, energy efficiency, electricity generation as well as research and development, the Croatian daily Jutarnji list reported.

The daily stated that the cooperation agreement between the two companies could be signed soon.

Representatives of HEP have recently visited EDF, the company ENEDIS which manages the public electricity distribution network for 95 percent of continental France, and the EDF Lab, the laboratory where advanced meters have been developed.

During the visit to ENEDIS, HEP representatives have had an opportunity to learn about developments in the measurement system and use of smart meters in France.

Currently, about 4.3 million smart meters are installed in that country. By the end of 2017, the plan is to install a total of eight million meters, and by 2021 about 35 million smart meters at more than 95 percent of the measuring points, Jutarnji list wrote.
