The car parts maker Continental Romania is investing EUR 1.8 million in a waste water treatment plant in the north of the country. A company statement said the facility took a year to build in the town of Carei in Satu Mare county.

The waste water treatment plant is being operated by Continental Romania’s plastic and rubber component division ContiTech Carei, the statement said.

“By treating waste water and placing it within the quality parameters, pollution will be eliminated and the environment will be preserved. The main objective of this project is to provide the inhabitants of the area with a cleaner environment.,” ContiTech Carei general manager Andreas Witkowski was quoted as saying.

The water treatment facility, which uses biological reactors, will have a staff of four to operate, monitor and perform maintenance work at the plant to secure water quality in line with Romanian laws.

The German Continental parent company has more than 18,000 employees in Romania in seven production plants and three research and development centers across the country.

Romania is obliged to reach wastewater management standards defined in European Union regulations and has received financing from European and international financial institutions and banks to build wastewater treatment facilities.
