The Serbian Delta Motors car retailer has installed its first charger for electric and hybrid vehicles at its BMW and Mini showroom at Radnička 8 street in Belgrade. The 2x22kW charger is only the fourth public charging station in Belgrade set up after the ones at the Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Courtyard hotels.

The Serbian media reported that there are plans to install a charger in the central Belgrade public garage at Obilićev Venac which is undergoing renovation.

The charger at Delta Motors, which has a standard EU connector, fills the batteries of the BMW i3 within three to four hours which is faster than the chargers installed individually by owners of hybrid vehicles at a cost of around EUR 1,000. It can be used by all brands and types of plug-in hybrid and electric cars.

Access to the charger is granted through the Delta Motors info desk during working hours. The service is free of charge for all electric and hybrid vehicle owners, the company said.

The Delta Motors company told Balkan Green Energy News that there are plans to set up more chargers but that no specific date had been set.

Delta Motors is working persistently with other retailers of electric and hybrid vehicles to develop a network of chargers and support infrastructure across the country, the company said.

Serbia is signatory to the European strategy on developing energy and energy efficiency which includes the development of a network of charging stations for electric and hybrid vehicles.

There were about 110 electric and 90 hybrid vehicles registered in Serbia at the start of 2017, according to Internal Affairs Ministry figures quoted by the media.

Delta Motors introduced BMW i3 and BMW i8 electric cars onto the Serbian market along with some hybrid vehicles this year.
