The Government of Albania has approved this month the construction of a 12 MW wind farm to the Alb-Building construction company. The first wind park in Albania will be developed in the region of Tepelena, along the river Vjosa.

The investor received a permit for the project’s development in 2012 from the previous government led by the Prime Minister Berisha. It was extended in 2016 by the Ministry of Energy and Industry.

As media previously reported, the project worth EUR 13 million will consist of six turbines, 2 MW each, and will cover the area of 15,000 square meters.

Oil and oil products play an important role in the energy mix of Albania with 58% of primary production, while renewables, predominantly hydro power make 48%.
