The Erseka solar park came online near Kolonja, Albanian media reported. The facility will generate 50 GWh per year, according to a promotional video.
Albania recently got another large photovoltaic plant as Erseka was put into operation, domestic news outlets learned. In a promotional video, shared by Prime Minister Edi Rama, the developers valued the investment at EUR 18 million.
The project was launched by firms Favina, Favina 1 and M&K Energy Trading. Earlier they actually said the first phase, of 40 MW and consisting of two units, would be worth EUR 30 million. They also revealed that they secured international loans.
According to information in the new video, annual output is estimated at 50 GWh. It could be characteristic of a 40 MW solar park. This one, near the village of Starje near Korça, features bifacial panels and tracking systems.
The goal for the Erseka location is 100 MW, the latest update shows
Documentation previously showed three projects of 20 MW each were under development in the area, which is in southeast Albania. The investors have taken 102 hectares on lease. In the current update, they said their goal is 100 MW, compared to 80 MW from previous reports.
The government gave the green light in 2022 for two PV units of 20 MW each. As for royalty payments, the operator is obligated to cede 2% of annual electricity production or give an equivalent financial compensation to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy.
The Municipality of Kolonja collected EUR 200,000 so far, investors said and added that they hired more than one hundred locals. The electricity will be sold on the free international market, they revealed.
Grid connection was envisaged through a planned 110/35 kV substation and a 110 kV power line.
