Sarajevo-based Solar agroland plans to build a 270 MW photovoltaic power plant near Bileća in southeastern Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Solar agroland has prepared a preliminary environmental impact assessment for the installation of the Bileća solar power plant. The investor plans to install 650 Wp bifacial solar panels with trackers that enable them to move in response to the sun’s direction.

The plant’s projected annual output is based on solar irradiance data collected at the planned location. The average annual production is estimated at nearly 420,000 MWh, according to the preliminary environmental impact assessment.

The total solar irradiance on a horizontal surface is 1,495 kilowatt-hours per square meter per year. The 380-hectare site for the solar power plant is located northwest of Bileća Lake, at an altitude of between 500 to 700 meters.

Members of the public can send comments within 15 days

The Ministry of Spatial Planning, Construction, and Ecology of the Republic of Srpska has made the request for a preliminary environmental impact assessment available to the public. At the same time, the ministry invited the public to submit comments within 15 days.

Following this period, the ministry will decide whether an environmental impact assessment for the power plant is necessary or not.

Bileća is probably the city with the largest number of completed or ongoing solar power projects in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition to solar power, the construction of hydroelectric power plants is either planned or underway in the area.

Bileća is home to a large number of solar and hydropower plant projects

Last year, EFT put into operation its 60 MW power plant, the biggest in BiH, while Banjaluka-based V&Z zaštita was awarded a concession for a 10 MW facility in 2023.

In October 2022, BIG Energia Holdings, the Hungarian subsidiary of BIG Shopping Centers, announced that it had won the tender for a 96 MW combined wind and solar project on state-owned land near the village of Planik.

In addition, Hidroelektrane na Trebišnjici, a subsidiary of state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Republika Srpska (ERS), is planning to build the Bileća hydropower plant. In mid-2023, construction was launched on another hydropower plant – Dabar, with a capacity of 160 MW.
