Friends of the Earth Cyprus organised a media stunt in Limassol on September 20 ahead of the talks of the Climate Summit in Paris, Cyprus Mail said.

The environmental non-governmental organization staged a symbolic ‘tug-of-war’ between polluting fossil fuel industries and renewable energy sources. They called for governments of European Union member countries to join the side of citizens and build a clean and safe 100% renewable future, the report adds.

The organisation called the Cyprus government, as well as those in the EU, to stop favouring fossil fuels, but to promote clean energy sources that will ensure the future of the planet and its people. The EU and member states must cut greenhouse gas emissions and establish radical measures in order to achieve the reduction of emissions, they said in a statement.

Theys said European leaders’ actions must reflect the urgency of a shift to a fully renewable energy system and that the drastic cut on greenhouse gas emissions must be a priority and a continuous process before and after the significant year of 2030, the article said.
