Renewable energy company Alerion Clean Power has signed a cooperation agreement with PV Project RO to develop solar power plants in Romania. The transaction is part of its 2021-2023 business plan to expand the portfolio to photovoltaics.

Under the agreement between Italy’s Alerion Clean Power and Romania’s PV Project RO, solar power plants with a total capacity of around 200 MW will be installed.

First solar power plants will be on the grid by the end of the second quarter

First photovoltaic facilities, with an installed capacity of 33 MW, are scheduled to begin operating by the end of the first half of this year, Alerion Clean Power said.

Alerion operates 15 wind farms in Italy, one in Bulgaria and one in Spain, with a total installed capacity of more than 700 MW.

The company also announced that it was awarded an incentive tariff of around 68.5 EUR/MWh for a period of 20 years in the last auction announced by the GSE (Energy Services Manager). The incentive was given to its subsidiary Naonis Wind, which will build a 12.6 MW wind farm in the municipality of Cerignola (Puglia).

Alerion intends to double installed capacity by 2023

According to its recently adopted 2021-2023 business plan, Alerion intends to increase installed capacity to 1,544 MW by the end of 2023. At the end of 2020, the company had 835 MW.

Target markets are Italy, Romania, and Spain, and the renewables mix will be expanded by solar photovoltaic investments in Italy and Romania, the company said.

By 2023 the company plans to operate 1,244 MW of installed wind capacity and 300 MW of solar. Total investments in the 2021-2023 period are estimated at EUR 700 million.
