Güriş Holding installed and commissioned its EFE 8 geothermal power plant in only 38 days. The 50 MW unit is the last section of Efeler, Turkey’s largest facility of its kind, with a capacity of 260 MW.

Mogan Enerji Yatırım Holding’s Chief Executive Officer Ali Karaduman said the subsidiary of Güriş Holding broke the world record by installing a 50 MW geothermal power facility in just 38 days. Geothermal power plant EFE 8, located in the district of Germencik in Aydın, is the eighth and final part of the 260 MW Efeler complex, the largest in the country.

The new plant has two dual fluid, binary cycle units of 25 MW each. The complex in western Turkey is run by Gürmat Elektrik, also an affiliate.

Domestic, international banks financed expansion

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB), European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Black Sea Trade and Development Bank (BSTDB), İşbank, Industrial Development Bank of Turkey (TSKB) and ICBC Turkey financed the construction of EFE 6, EFE 7 and EFE 8 with USD 350 million in loans. The three units have a combined capacity of 97.6 MW.

Efeler is the largest geothermal power plant in Turkey

Güriş, founded in 1958, said the last unit would replace gas imports worth USD 15 million per year and meet electricity needs of 170 thousand households. Estimated output is 400 GWh per year.

Güriş nearing 1 GW in renewable power capacity

The company has been in the renewable energy business since 1993 and it is getting closer to 1 GW in capacity in the segment. It just commissioned the first two turbines in the ULU wind park in Bursa. The facility should grow to 120.4 MW.

Güriş is also active in transportation, industry, water structures and treatment and tourism. It builds and operates hydroelectric and thermal power plants. The conglomerate has a business in Ukraine. It owns the Kitka wind power plant in Kosovo*.

The first unit of Efeler, EFE 2, was put into operation in 2014.

* This designation is without prejudice to positions on status and is in line with UNSCR 1244/99 and the ICJ Opinion on the Kosovo declaration of independence.

Jahanshah Karimibirgani / September 22, 2022

I, Jahanshah Karimi Birgani from Tehran, have prepared a proposal according to the following conditions:

My proposed plan increases geothermal energy extraction in each functional area by more than ten times or more compared to conventional methods of extraction of this energy. Also, this plan secures investment in this field against the destructive forces of earthquakes and liquefaction. In general, this project revolutionizes the geothermal energy extraction industry.

The general principles of my proposed plan are based on the following:

Resistance of geothermal energy piles subjected to earthquake and liquefaction phenomena.
The purposes of the proposed project.
1- The resistance of geothermal energy piles ( steel casing ) is subjected to the horizontal and vertical displacement induced by earthquake force and liquefaction.
2- Occupying the minimum ground surface.
3- Optimizing geothermal energy production.

Immediately in case of your positive answer, I am ready to send you the proposed plan prepared on 11 pages in A4 format.
After review and approval, we can talk about its application.

In addition, if the proposed plan is reviewed and approved, I am interested in presenting it at the Geothermal Congress in Berlin in October.

I will be very grateful if you agree.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read my request.
I am looking forward to your reply.
Best regards
