German solar company Promondis plans to install a solar power plant with a capacity of 88.5 megawatts in the municipality of Bosanski Petrovac in the Una-Sana Canton of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The development of the solar photovoltaic project started two years ago, and the investor has now officially submitted an application for the urbanistic consent with the complete documentation and conceptual design, the Municipality of Bosanski Petrovac announced.

The investor expects the construction could start in the spring of 2022, and the completion of the project is planned for 2024.

Prime Minister of the Una-Sana Canton Mustafa Ružnić has met with the owner of the Promondis, Berthold Brentrup. Promondis is ready to invest EUR 45 million in a solar park with a capacity of 88.5 MW, the municipality said on its website.

It will be the largest solar project for the production of electricity in former Yugoslavia, the municipality underlined.

Of note, in March the Government of Una-Sana Canton announced that it plans to publish an international public call for the construction of a 90 MW solar power plant this year.

BiH does not have any utility-scale solar power plants, and this one in Bosanski Petrovac is the fifth announced in the last few years, also the first outside Herzegovina. In Herzegovina, solar power plants will be built by private companies Etmax and EFT, as well as state-owned companies Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske and Elektroprivreda BiH.
