Fortis Energy has obtained preliminary grid connection permits in Serbia for three wind projects with an overall capacity of 509.5 MW.

Serbia’s transmission system operator Elektromreža Srbija (EMS) issued formal statements on electricity grid connections for wind park projects Vranje, of 171 MW, and Gornjak – 194.4 MW, Fortis Energy said.

According to the company, the preliminary license process is ongoing for its 144 MW Juhor wind project.

With a capacity of 509.4 MW in total, the wind power plants will generate 1.5 billion kWh of renewable energy, equivalent to the annual consumption of 750,000 households, and prevent the emission of 350,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.

The investments in three projects are estimated at a combined EUR 550 million

Wind measurements for the wind park sites and preliminary wind resource assessments are underway, Fortis Energy stressed.

The company estimated the investments in the three projects at a combined EUR 550 million. They support a comprehensive value chain across various sectors, including civil works, electrical engineering, logistics, maintenance, security, and telecommunications, Fortis Energy said.

Of note, a week ago Fortis Energy said that it acquired a 180 MW photovoltaic project in Serbia. It will include 36 MWh of battery capacity, the firm added.

September 1 marks the start of the new interval for the preparation of grid connection studies

On April 20, Serbia’s TSO EMS completed the first interval of preparation of studies for the connection of power plants and other facilities to the transmission grid under the new decree on electricity delivery and supply.

Bank guarantees for solar, wind and hydropower projects and substations were provided for 28 facilities with an overall capacity of 4,000 MW. Developers of 51 investments in total, divided into two groups, had to submit them by June 24 or July 1.

Three weeks ago EMS announced that September 1 would mark the start of the new study preparation interval. The deadline to submit applications is August 1.
