
Companies Končar and Dalekovod are set to build the first phase of the Štip wind farm for Alcazar Energy in North Macedonia.
The Štip wind farm project has a planned total capacity of 396 MW, making it currently the largest in the Western Balkans.
Alcazar Energy officially marked the start of construction a year ago.
Following an international tender, the investor, Alcazar Energy, selected a consortium of Croatian companies Končar and Dalekovod to build the wind farm and its associated power infrastructure in North Macedonia, Dalekovod said.
The contract includes the construction of the first phase of the wind farm with 21 turbines
The contract value is EUR 53.7 million. It includes the construction of the first phase of the wind farm with 21 wind turbines, each with an individual capacity of 6.25 MW. The total installed capacity will be approximately 131.25 MW.
The project includes civil engineering and electrical engineering works for the plant’s infrastructure, including the construction of foundations, internal roads, crane pads, medium-voltage grid, optical communication system, grounding system, as well as other auxiliary systems.
As part of the project, a new 400/35 kV Baltalija substation with an accompanying main switchyard will also be built, along with a double-circuit 400 kV overhead transmission line that will connect the wind farm to the grid operated by transmission system operator (TSO) MEPSO.

In early April, Alcazar Energy launched a public consultation for the project.
The second phase envisages the installation of 17 wind turbines, and the remaining 16 are for phase 3. Construction of the first phase was planned to begin in the second quarter of 2026. The company expects phase 1 to be operational by mid-2028, and the entire facility by 2029.
The largest operational wind farm in the Western Balkans is Čibuk 1, with a capacity of 158 MW, while the largest project in the pipeline is Maestrale Ring, also in Serbia, for 854 MW.
Of note, the largest operational wind farm in Europe is Markbygden in Sweden, with a capacity of 2,000 MW.
