The Austrian company Zumtobel Group, well-known for the production of innovative lighting systems, will invest EUR 30 million in a luminaire production plant in Niš, Serbia.

The Supervisory Board of Zumtobel Group approves the construction of a luminaire production plant in Niš on the south of Serbia, reads a press release on the company’s website. The plant will be built in two phases, with EUR 30 million invested in it over the next two and a half years. The production, according to the press release, should start no later than 2019.

The primary role of the planned luminaire plant in Serbia is to handle the additional volumes that are planned for the years ahead and to supply the Group’s primary market in Europe at optimal prices. In addition, the new production plant in Niš should reinforce the Group’s presence in the dynamic growth market of Eastern Europe.

“The planned production site in Serbia will help boost our competitiveness and give us a means of responding more flexibly to market requirements as a Group. It will also enable us to position our plants and utilize their capacities in line with their strengths,” said Alfred Felder, the CEO of Zumtobel Group.

In the innovative lighting segment, Zumtobel Group maintains production facilities throughout Europe, including Germany, Austria, England and France. The company also has plants in the USA, Australia, New Zealand and China.

The factory in Niš will be a Greenfield investment. Zumtobel Group opened a project bureau in Belgrade last year. The bureau which was moved from Poland to Serbia employs electrical engineers and architects.

The Austrian company also donated LED street lights and a smart operating system for two streets in Niš and Belgrade a year ago.
