Croatian engineering firm Končar has signed a EUR 24 million contract to build a substation in Sweden, marking its largest single substation construction deal to date. It is also the first greenfield 400 kV substation project awarded in Sweden, the Croatian company said.
The contract with Svenska Kraftnät, the Swedish transmission system operator, covers the construction of a new CT186 Munga substation on a turnkey basis, Končar said. The job is valued at SEK 257.8 million, or about EUR 24 million, it added.
The value of the new project exceeds that of the March 2025 contract for the PT 46 Munksund substation, worth SEK 202.5 million, or EUR 18.4 million, which Končar signed with Swedish company Vattenfall. That contract, also awarded on a turnkey basis, was Končar’s largest-ever substation construction deal at the time.
The new agreement surpasses Končar’s previous largest substation contract, signed in 2025
Končar has been present on the Swedish market for many years through the supply of transformers (instrument, distribution, and power transformers) and the construction and revitalization of substations. With this project, the Croatian company continues to expand its business in Sweden, according to the statement.
In 2023, Končar – Inženjering (KET) signed two contracts with Svenska Kraftnät, totaling EUR 20 million. The contracts covered an expansion of a 220 kV transformer station in Linnvasselv and the modernization of seven 220 kV transformer stations near Stockholm, according to earlier reports.
Generators for a hydropower plant in the Czech Republic
In late March this year, Končar signed a contract with the Czech Republic-based Litostroj Engineering for the design, manufacture, supply, installation supervision, and commissioning of new generators and motor-generators, as well as a complete monitoring system, as part of a modernization project for the Orlík hydropower plant.
The total contract value amounts to EUR 46.9 million, with completion targeted for 2033, according to Končar’s website.
