EBRD announces tender for Belgrade’s Sava Lake clean-up

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) opened a tender for a project to clean the Sava Lake bed and build a raw water pipeline in Belgrade, Serbia.

The EBRD has offered a loan worth EUR 8.5 million for the first tranche of the Belgrade Water project to cover the cost of the primary task to remove sedimentation from the Sava Lake settling tank. Under the name “Tranche 1 – Component 1”, the project includes the construction of the related water pipeline.

The invitation for tender follows a general procurement notice from April, with the employer of the project being the Public Utility Company Belgrade Waterworks and Sewerage (Javno komunalno preduzeće Beogradski vodovod i kanalizacija).

The contractors are invited to send sealed offers for the job that would require removal of up to 200,000 cubic metres of the dredged sludge from the base of the water reservoir (i.e. settling tank, called Taložnik), which serves the Makiš Water Treatment Plants. The contractor would then have to place two new raw water distribution pipelines, with diameter of Ø1500 and 400 metres long, on the bottom of the tank.

The time for completion of the works is 9 months.

“Tendering for contracts to be financed with the proceeds of a loan from the Bank is open to firms from any country,” said the EBRD invitation for tenders, which was issued on November 1. The closing date is December 20, 2016 at 12:00 CET.

The Tranche 2 of the project is focused to the related job on refurbishment of the adjacent Water Treatment Plant “Makiš 1”, and the EBRD secured a loan worth EUR 4.5 million.

Sava Lake is an artificial lake created on the right-side bank of River Sava, when the Ada Ciganlija river island was connected with three dams and effectively turned into peninsula.
