Akuo, a global independent developer and producer of renewable energy, reinforced its commitment to fostering a greener future by hosting a collaborative workshop in partnership with the Goce Delčev University Shtip in North Macedonia, in the presence of government officials, business leaders, environmental experts, students, and representatives from the agriculture and energy sectors.

The workshop, titled ‘Empowering Stip through driving sustainable growth, agriculture, and green energy transition’ is part of Akuo’s broader initiative to drive innovation and create long-term economic and environmental benefits in the region, as well as empower local communities to explore solutions to integrate renewable energy into sustainable business models.

In his welcoming speech, Stip Mayor Ivan Jordanov highlighted that the region plays a key role in the energy transition due to its geographical location, developed industrial infrastructure and high awareness of sustainable development.

“Cooperation with institutions, the private sector and the academic community allows us to learn and implement the latest technologies and best practices in renewable energy sources. Through smart energy efficiency solutions, we create sustainable conditions for economic growth and a better quality of life for citizens,” said Mr. Jordanov, who expressed his deepest gratitude to Akuo for integrating local communities into its renewable energy initiatives.

Stip can accelerate transition to greener economy

During the workshop, Akuo presented investment opportunities, technological advances and policy recommendations that could accelerate Stip’s transition to a greener economy. Akuo shared successful case studies of its projects around the world, demonstrating the tangible benefits of clean energy integration in different regions.

The second panel provided valuable insights into the needs and demands of students in Stip (also spelled Shtip or Štip) and the surrounding region. Through dynamic discussions and the exchange of experiences, the panel played a crucial role in defining and jointly shaping Akuo Foundation’s project. These conversations help identify the real challenges faced by students and the community, and ensure that the project evolves in line with their needs.

“A renewable energy project is a long-term project: at Akuo, we develop such projects with great ambitions for local citizens. We are part of the landscape and therefore it is our role to support the university and the interaction between energy and agricultural production,” said Emil Bakić, Akuo’s Balkans Director.

Akuo’s projects are game changers

The Akuo Foundation has been actively working on this project for months with local stakeholders: these are not just words, but projects that have a real impact and are game changers for students, universities and local communities, said Katinka Rambert, Akuo’s CSR Director and Head of the Akuo Foundation. “Our role and passion is to make this happen,” she added.

The workshop concluded with the Akuo Foundation presenting concrete steps to continue supporting Stip’s transition to sustainability. These include launching pilot projects that integrate renewable energy into agricultural production, establishing a regional sustainability working group, and establishing ongoing collaboration frameworks to ensure continued progress.

Akuo, through this initiative, reaffirms its position as a key player in North Macedonia, in favor of renewable energy and sustainability. By taking proactive steps to empower communities and invest in green solutions, Akuo is not only transforming the economic landscape of Stip, but also setting an example of a sustainable economic development model worldwide.
