The Republic of Srpska has signed an agreement on strategic cooperation in the field of renewable energy sources with China-based companies Zhongbo Group and China Power.

Minister of Mining and Energy Đokić said that on behalf of the Government of the Republic of Srpska, he signed an agreement on renewables with two Chinese companies.

The two companies have expressed interest in examining the wind and solar energy potential, he wrote on Facebook. The Republic of Srpska is one of the two entities making up Bosnia and Herzegovina. The other one is called the Federation of BiH and it consists of ten autonomous cantons.

The first project envisaged by the agreement is a wind farm. Its capacity would be determined after additional analysis and a feasibility study.

The first project would be a wind farm

Zhongbo Group was mentioned in June as a potential investor in the Hrgud wind farm. Germany earlier decided to stop financing the project.

According to Đokić, the Government of the Republic of Srpska expressed its readiness to support the investor in line with the entity’s regulatory framework.

Zhongbo Group has a decades-long track record in the construction of facilities using renewable energy sources, production of components used in construction, making roads and high-speed railways as well as building warehouses in ports and for customs offices, and in international trade, Đokić said.

China Power, in his words, is Zhongbo’s subsidiary, established for projects outside the home country.

So far China Power has built photovoltaic plants of 10 GW in total

Đokić stressed that the company has so far installed solar power plants under a turnkey system of about 10 GW overall, valued at EUR 3.3 billion.

It expressed willingness to cooperate with domestic companies in other areas as well, the minister said.

Ambassador of BiH to China Siniša Berjan, who organized the visit of the Chinese companies, attended the meeting.
