The city of Vranje in southern Serbia has leased land for the construction of two solar power plants with a total capacity of 18 MW.

Photovoltaic units will be installed by Solarbelt in the area of the village of Soderce near Vranje.

The city government said it struck a deal on the lease of land in Soderce for two solar power plants. The contract was signed by mayor of Vranje Slobodan Milenković and Solarbelt CEO Zoltán Tamás.

It envisages the long-term lease of public land in public ownership in the cadastral municipality of Soderce, with a surface of 20.6 hectares.

Solarbelt will build two solar power plants

According to city authorities, it comprises four plots for which Solarbelt will pay an overall monthly rent of RSD 438,000 (EUR 3,741) for a period of 30 years. The plan envisages the construction of two photovoltaic plants with a capacity of 9 MW each.

It was a difficult road, but the city succeeded in finally getting a solar power plant, mayor Milenković said.

The management of Solarbelt, in his words, also helped a lot with the procedure.

The start of construction is planned for next year

According to Solarbelt CEO Zoltán Tamás, Vranje will become known for the largest solar park in Serbia.

The start of the construction of two solar power plants is planned for 2025, the city said on its website.

Of note, the largest solar power plants in Serbia are DeLasol, near Lapovo, and Saraorci, near Smederevo. Both PV facilities have a capacity of 9.9 MW.

At the end of May, Nofar Energy started the installation of a 26 MW solar park in the municipality of Ada. The company said it plans to complete it before the end of the year.
