Less than a year after the official start of construction, in the village of Saraorci, near Smederevo in Serbia, German firm AVR Group and PowerChina inaugurated a 9.9 MW solar power plant. Its capacity is equal to the largest facility of the kind in the country.

Serbia doesn’t have large photovoltaic facilities. The biggest was built near Lapovo in central Serbia last year. Both are connected to the distribution grid.

Power Construction Corporation of China (PowerChina) installed the PV plant in Saraorci.

In the second phase the investors plan to issue a digital token

Representatives of the investors said the first phase of the project, with a 9.9 MW connection (11.8 MW in nameplate capacity), is complete, while that the second would be 1.5 MW and 1.86 MW, respectively. The electricity that the facility produces will be delivered to the distribution grid, they  added.

Bojan Lazić, chief engineer of the AVR Group, said the annual production of electricity is estimated at 15.1 GWh. It is enough to supply 2,400 local households. It is the firm’s first finished project in a 300 MW portfolio, Lazić stressed.

He announced the construction of the a PV facility in Obrenovac for June, with a capacity of 9.95 MW. It would be followed by the second phase of the Saraorci project, in Lazić’s words.

AVR plans to start construction of another PV plant in June

The second phase of the project will bring a novelty as a digital token is planned to be issued to facilitate investments in renewables, he explained.

According to Yan Laihui, general manager of PowerChina Hubei, the company will continue to pursue its green development concept. “We plan to increase investments in the renewable energy sector with the support of the Serbian government and Chinese embassy,” he stressed.

Such investments, in his words, are going to boost the economy and social progress of Serbia and support sustainable development.
