UNDP and CZDA signed Biomass Energy for Employment and Energy Security MoU in Sarajevo

Signing ceremony of the Memorandum of understanding (MoU) between UNDP and Czech Development Agency (CZDA) for the project “BiH Biomass Energy for Employment and Energy Security” was held in Sarajevo, country’s capital.

“Every investment in biomass cuts carbon emissions and fights climate change”, said Sezin Sinanoglu, United Nation (UN) Coordinator and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative for BiH.

“Project`s goal is to deliver analysis and options for electricity production from biomass. This will save energy, reduce energy expenses for households and open new jobs. Biomass in BiH has a great potential since forests cover 53% of the territory” said Jakub Skalnik, Ambassador of the Czech Republic to BiH.

“Total value of the project is EUR 900,000, including EUR 500,000 provided by CZDA. Our research shows that every USD 1 million invested in green technologies creates 100 new jobs. This makes it so valuable in the country with an unemployment rate of 63%” said Sezin Sinanoglu.

“Savings gained by cutting expenses for households and public sector can be used for other projects in education or health sector, where ever is needed”, added Sinanoglu, reports web portal Energetika.
