Solar energy developer Čevo Solar has officially put into operation the first ground-mounted photovoltaic facility in Montenegro. The 4.4 MW unit, also called Čevo Solar, was built in the village of Čevo, close to the country’s historical capital Cetinje.
Čevo Solar has 8,112 solar panels, with a peak capacity of 545 W each, spread over 70,000 square meters on a plateau.
The PV plant’s planned annual production is 6,064 MWh. The panels are installed on a specially placed construction consisting of 312 strings, the firm said.
Of note, Montenegro has issued urban planning and technical conditions for the construction of 30 large renewable power plants, mostly solar projects. Their total capacity is 4,000 MW, but the implementation is slow.
Čevo is one of the most interesting locations for the construction of PV plants. In August, Montenegro’s transmission system operator CGES signed agreements on connecting two planned solar power systems with a total planned capacity of 615 MW.
The projects were developed by companies Sun Horizon and Obnovljivi Izvori Energije.

According to Čevo Solar, a total of 26 inverters with a capacity of 125 kW were installed. A new substation 0.8/35 kV was also built.
The firm Čevo Solar plans to implement more similar projects
Dragoslav Damjanović, Čevo Solar CEO, said he expects there would be more similar green energy production facilities in Montenegro.
Such investments will secure a sufficient amount of renewable electricity for the country, something the entire world is doing, he added.
Damjanović pointed out that adding green electricity capacities creates the conditions for a sustainable energy future.
Apart from the abovementioned endeavor, the company plans to implement more solar power projects, according to its website.
