An agreement on linking a renewable energy unit to the grid was signed this week by Ebioss Energy a.d., headquartered in Sofia, and EVN Bulgaria, subsidiary of Austrian EVN, SeeNews reported. The biomass-fuelled cogeneration plant is in the town of Karlovo, north of Plovdiv, the country’s second-largest city.

“After various changes in the energy law in 2015, which forced Ebioss to proceed with various changes in the infrastructure of the plant, the company decided to reinitiate a long legal process with the Bulgarian administration and renegotiate conditions with electricity company EVN, the buyer of the produced energy,” it said in a filing with Spanish equity exchange Mercado Alternativo Bursátil (MAB), a submarket of Bolsas y Mercados Espanoles (BME). With the combined heat and power (CHP) plant adapted to legal requirements and the contract signed, Ebioss expects to receive a commissioning licence in the last quarter of the year, the document adds.

Earlier this month, Biomass Distribution, the company’s unit, has been granted a certificate for the completion of construction works at its pelletizing plant in Stroevo in the vicinity of Plovdiv. The facility is worth EUR 3.6 million, according to a separate regulatory filing.

The factory has a processing capacity of six tonnes per hour. Ebioss has branches in Spain, Portugal, Italy and Brazil.
