Solsign, an Irish energy and property technology startup, has launched an innovative AI platform that can instantly assess the viability of any land plot for solar farm development. The technology aims to accelerate the transition to renewable energy by identifying promising sites for solar projects across diverse regions.

The startup’s groundbreaking platform only requires the geo-coordinates to form the perimeter of a land plot (a polygon). Its proprietary algorithms then analyze the plot’s geographic, grid connectivity, and hyperlocal permitting processes to generate a solar viability score. This provides an objective, data-driven assessment of a site’s potential as a solar farm.

“Solsign’s breakthrough potential lies in its ability to unlock a vast pool of untapped solar development opportunities across diverse regions, making renewable energy projects accessible to international energy investors,” said Mattan Lass, the founder of Solsign. “We are poised to ease the land scouting, assessment, and acquisition bottlenecks that hamper the development of solar energy facilities in developing markets.”

The platform also features a listing marketplace where pre-validated land plots are advertised to renewable energy companies looking for their next solar project. Landowners and property agents can search for and upload their plots to get an initial viability assessment for free. A ‘freemium’ feature then enables real estate agents to list high-potential parcels directly for the solar developers’ attention.

Europe’s first vetted solar site property portal

“We’re bringing transparency and efficiency to solar land transactions that have relied on expensive middlemen and imperfect information,” explained Lass. “Our data-first approach discovers hidden gems through an objective viability lens. The increased roll-out of solar energy installations in this region requires the participation of the entire property and energy industries – we are leveling the playing field for solar developers and real estate agents alike”.

Solsign has signed agreements with major domestic and international renewable energy companies in Serbia to use the platform and property marketplace. These companies have already been granted access to browse the database of vetted land parcels and their viability scores.

“The potential of this product is huge, to say the least,” said Dragana Filipović, Solsign’s Serbia Country Manager. “On the one hand, solar developers can easily find validated properties without resorting to expensive scouts and intermediaries. On the other hand, we are the only company able and willing to give landowners and property agents an objective view of the solar viability of their land.”

Solsign plans to expand its platform capabilities and database of land parcels globally

While Serbia provided a valuable testing ground, Solsign is poised for worldwide expansion. Solsign plans to expand its platform capabilities and database of land parcels globally. It will also hire machine learning and GIS experts to further refine its solar viability algorithms. The startup’s ultimate vision is to accelerate solar energy’s growth worldwide by revealing sites that can now produce emissions-free power at record-low costs.

Solsign’s Serbian pilot will be launched at Energy Week Western Balkans 2023

“By shining a light on overlooked solar opportunities, we can help nations everywhere transition to renewable energy faster,” said Eran Goren, Solsign’s COO. “The pieces are in place for a solar revolution if we can unlock the right locations.”

Solsign’s Serbian pilot will be launched at Energy Week Western Balkans 2023, taking place in Porto Montenegro from October 18 to 19, one of the region’s biggest renewable energy events.

“Energy Week Western Balkans is the perfect venue to showcase our Serbia success and connect with potential customers and investors in renewable energy,” said Goren. “We look forward to demonstrating Solsign’s capabilities and exploring opportunities to scale our platform across the region.”

Solsign has received grant funding from the European Space Agency and is participating in the European Space Agency – Business Incubation Centre (Ireland) program. It has offices in Dublin and London, with an R&D facility in Serbia.
