Slovenia-based firm Interenergo has inaugurated the Bukovica solar power plant, with 6.25 MW in peak capacity. It is among the five largest operating ground-based photovoltaic facilities in Croatia. The company already has a wind farm at the same location and is also developing new solar projects in the country.
The solar power plant and the wind park, built in 2020, are in a degraded area in the municipality of Jasenice in northern Dalmatia. The wind and solar power plant will generate enough electricity every year to cover the needs of 12,000 households. There is another, larger solar park in the area.
“Long-term and strategic planning allowed us, with the help of power plants, not only to reuse the degraded area and give it new meaning but also to harness the synergy of two key renewable resources in one location. By developing well-thought-out projects, we strengthen the region’s development and, with the help of the various technological solutions available to us, accelerate the energy transition,” the managing director of Interenergo Blaž Šterk said at the launch ceremony.
Interenergo intends to build another solar power plant near Zadar, with twice the capacity of Bukovica
According to the company, despite the difficult terrain and non-ideal weather conditions, it finished the project within 12 months with numerous subcontractors and with the support of the Municipality of Jasenice.
“In close cooperation with the Municipality of Jasenice and our partners, we have opened our first solar power plant in Croatia today, thus taking another important step towards a more sustainable energy future for the region,” Šterk stressed.
In the following years, in the nearby City of Zadar territory, Interenergo intends to build another solar power plant with twice the capacity of Bukovica. In addition, it has two solar power plant projects in the development phase in eastern Croatia.
Interenergo is currently developing renewable energy projects with more than 200 MW in peak capacity elsewhere in the region
In addition to the projects in Croatia, Interenergo is currently developing renewable energy projects with more than 200 MW in peak capacity in the region.
Interenergo said its portfolio of hydro, wind, and solar resources in the region now consists of as many as 35 operating projects.
Of note, in November 2022, Interenergo bought the Ivan Sedlo wind farm project, which is being built not far from Sarajevo in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
