Pharmaceutical company Pliva Hrvatska, in cooperation with E.ON Solar, installed a solar power plant that will cover 30% of the electricity consumption of its production facilities, located on the outskirts of the Croatian capital Zagreb, and bring financial savings of 20%. It is the largest photovoltaic plant in Croatia.
A solar power plant with a capacity of 9.71 MW was installed in Savski Marof, where Pliva’s production facilities are located. Pliva is a member of Teva Group and E.On Solar is part of E.ON Hrvatska. The facility has the largest capacity for the production of electricity for self-consumption in Croatia.
The project is financed via a power purchase agreement (PPA) and occupies an area of almost 60,000 square meters, the two companies said.
They used the most sophisticated solar panels, of 545 W, which in combination with the east-west orientation of the facility made it possible to occupy a significantly small area.
Over the summer, the power plant will deliver 10% to 15% of output to the grid
The firm expects it would deliver 10% to 15% of the produced electricity in the summer months to the grid, for other consumers.
Mihael Furjan, president of the Pliva management board, said an important component of this project is the reduction of dependence on other sources of energy, especially at a time when energy prices drive price increases, inflation and disruptions in supply chains.
He stressed the firm would continue investing in the green transition.
According to Andreas Rörig, President of the Management Board of E.ON Hrvatska, the project implemented with Pliva proves that his company is a partner for solutions that contribute to energy efficiency and independence, while at the same time supporting the climate goals for the decarbonization of the industry.
Of note, as part of its global ESG strategy, Teva has committed to reducing CO2 emissions by 33% by 2025. Pliva has been the owner of the green ZelEn certificate for more than six years. It is given to consumers that use energy produced from renewable sources.
