The Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina approved a EUR 36 million loan from the European Investment Bank (EIB) for the 50 MW Vlašić wind farm project. The investment is valued at EUR 75 million and the EPBiH should start construction in 2024.

The Council of Ministers of BiH accepted the Ministry of Finance and Treasury’s proposal to take a EUR 36 million from the European Investment Bank (EIB) loan for the construction of a wind farm on the Vlašić mountain. The repayment period is 20 years including a deferred payment period of four years.

The Vlašić wind farm will be located on a mountain plateau in the Travnik municipality in central Bosnia. As announced by the Council of Ministers, the plan is to start construction next year. State-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Bosne i Hercegovine (EPBIH) will implement the project.

The start of construction of the Vlašić project is planned for 2024

The project envisages the delivery, installation, and commissioning of wind turbines, foundation construction, delivery and installation of electrical equipment and transformers for wind turbines and towers, construction of high-voltage substations, construction of access roads, cable trenches, assembly area and platforms for cranes and various consulting services, the Council of Ministers announced.

The wind farm will have 18 wind turbines of 50 MW in total. Expected annual production is 115 GWh.

The project is estimated at EUR 75 million, according to EIB. Last year, the bank approved a EUR 300,000 loan to EPBIH for consulting services related to the Vlašić wind farm project.

According to previous updates, EIB and Germany’s KfW Development Bank were supposed to provide loans of EUR 36 million each, and EPBIH would participate with EUR 3 million of own funds.
