As early as next month or in September, the first phase of testing of new technologies and solutions in working smart networks could be initiated as a result of bilateral cooperation between Slovenia and Japan. NEDO demonstrational project, which will last for three years and is worth EUR 30 million, comes against a backdrop of many smaller ongoing projects, said Igor Papič, head of domestic SmartGrids platform. Speaking at En.grids 016, he said NEDO will be the largest ever in Slovenia and bring fresh information. Papič warned that the participants’ funds are too small to achieve ambitious goals and that failing and disappointment in a demo endeavour is normal, Energetika.net reported, as carried by Si21.com.

Speakers at the central panel of the event didn’t give details on participants in the project. Uroš Salobir, representative of government-controlled transmission system operator Elektro-Slovenija d.o.o. (ELES), said the greatest challenge is to avoid keeping Japanese partners waiting.

Bojan Luskovec, chairman of the Board of Elektro Gorenjska, stated distribution enterprises are ready for the project, but that the question is whether customers are.
