The M. T. Abraham Group said it would build a solar power plant to ensure a stable and affordable electricity supply of Aluminij Industries in Mostar. One of the largest electricity consumers in Bosnia and Herzegovina is entering the process of decarbonization and transition to renewable energy sources.

Activities for obtaining the necessary permits and defining the financial model for the construction of a solar photovoltaic power plant have already started. Israeli M. T. Abraham Group, within which the Mostar-based Aluminij operates, has provided funds for operating costs of EUR 32.3 million for the project, the news outlet reported.

Aluminij is one of the largest consumers of electricity in BiH

Aluminij Industries is one of the largest consumers of electricity in BiH. The plant needs a safe and stable electricity supply of 8,760 hours annually. The solar photovoltaic power plant is planned to produce over 68 GWh per year.

M. T. Abraham Group said it would expand the scope of the project and cooperation. Aluminij Industries, its subsidiary, will be able to meet the electricity needs of the foundry, anode factory, and administration building with the photovoltaic plant.

Solar opportunities in Herzegovina

The average number of sunny days in Mostar is over 280 per year, and with the availability of large open areas, there is great potential for solar power plant projects.

The entire territory of Herzegovina is ideal for efficient and long-term use of solar potential, with significant sources of solar energy and an extremely favorable seasonal schedule of sunny days.

Aluminij Industries is certified according to the ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015 standards and it has become part of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative and European Aluminium. The company from Mostar said it is both the largest importer and exporter in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with an annual production capacity of over 350,000 metric tons.
