The Albanian Power Exchange (ALPEX) has signed an agreement with the Athens Stock Exchange (ATHEX), Hellenic Energy Exchange (HEnEx) and EnΕx Clearing House (EnExClear) on providing an electronic trading platform for its day-ahead and intraday markets.

The contract for the establishment of the joint power exchange for Albania and Kosovo* was signed after the third tender launched by ALPEX.

The market go-live is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2022, ALPEX said.

ALPEX said it would continue to work towards implementing the European Union’s Target Model for day-ahead and intraday markets and strive to become a nominated electricity market operator (NEMO).

ALPEX is proud and satisfied with the conclusion of the first step in its quest for integration in the European target model, Sokol Dishnica, ALPEX CEO, said.

The project involves knowledge transfer and consulting, the provision of a new trading platform, the required clearing services and support for market coupling

According to the Energy Exchange Group (EnEX), owner of the HEnEx and EnExClear, ALPEX, ATHEX, HEnEx and EnExClear will implement a project in the coming months which involves knowledge transfer and consulting, the provision of a new trading platform for ALPEX’s day-ahead and intraday markets, the required clearing services and support for market coupling with Albanian neighbors and primarily its integration in the EU power markets.

After successfully setting up its day-ahead and intraday markets and coupling with the Italian and Bulgarian borders, EnEX is dedicated to building solid regional relationships, extending the day-ahead and intraday markets integration, Energy Exchange Group said.

Lazaridis: The cooperation of ATHEX and EnEx with ALPEX aims to expand coupling and cooperation in the region under EU standards

Socrates Lazaridis, ATHEX CEO, said the cooperation of ATHEX and EnEx with ALPEX to expand coupling and cooperation in the region under EU standards represents the continuation of the activities which started a few years ago.

It all started when ATHEX decided to provide its experience and infrastructure to other energy market operators, energy clearing houses and energy trading platform users such as HEnEx, EnExClear, CSE, DESFA, he said.

In November 2020, the Hellenic Energy Exchange (HEnEx) launched the day-ahead, intraday and balancing markets.
