Association for Sustainable Development (ASOR) organized a conference ’Energy efficiency improvement in local municipalities’ on April 5. It was the first in a series of events planned with the aim to raise public interest for sustainable development in Serbia.

Maja Turković, director of Wind Power Co., welcomed speakers and guests and opened the conference. Dušan Ignjatović, assistant professor at the Faculty of Architecture, University of Belgrade, presented his paper ’The Construction Fund of Residential Buildings in Serbia: Energy Performance and Possibilities for Improvement’. He reminded energy efficiency of Serbian buildings is very low. His study shows that 83% of the structures has no wall thermal insulation, so there is a lot of room for improvement.

Dragoljub Dakić from the Innovation Centre at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Belgrade, presented findings about the exploitation of agricultural residues for energy purposes with information on potential donations.

Ljubisav Stamenić, professor from Vancouver University in Canada, spoke about photovoltaic systems in urban areas, and Dragan Mrkalj from Serbian European Integration Office (SEIO) explained which European Union funds can used to promote sustainability in energy industry.
