High electricity costs brought about an initiative in a regional authority to invest in a solar power facility to cover the needs of its 200 buildings. Sisak-Moslavina County in central Croatia made an agreement with the Municipality of Martinska Ves to cede 15 hectares and said it is launching preparations for feasibility study for a photovoltaic plant of 8 MW, worth HRK 80 million (EUR 10.7 million), portal SEEbiz.eu reported.

The project should be complete in two and a half years and implemented in two phases. The study and project design are planned to be finished within six months, according to Siniša Marijan, head of the Managing Board of Končar – Electrical Engineering Institute Inc. He added the location permit and the main project are included in the initial segment. The institute will be the partner of county development agency SiMoRa.

The Mahovo industrial zone has 129 hectares, from which 75 hectares in three plots are owned by the municipality. The one for the photovoltaic plant has a total of 27 hectares. County chief Ivo Žinić said his institution will invest EUR 500,000 and that it counts on financing from the European Union and the national Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund (FZOEU).
