One more Renewables Obligation Certificate (ROC) deadline is passed in the United Kingdom with great success for Metka EGN, director Lefteris Pliakos announced on LinkedIn. The company delivered engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services for more than 100 MW of projects in one year, summing to a total of 230 MW in the last two and a half years, he said. The project sizes were from 4 MW to 26 MW, in England and Scotland, for Canadian Solar, Lightsource, Next Energy, Moser Baer, and Hazel Capital.

He said he expects this year will not be easy for solar business in the UK. Metka EGN is already finalizing the first deals including projects in Scotland and Northern Ireland, and is in discussions to undertake projects in Italy, France and Germany, he added. The next careful steps of expansion include the markets in the United States and Mexico, where very soon the company will be able to undertake projects, Pliakos wrote.

ROCs are issued to operators of accredited renewable generating stations and they can trade them. The green certificates are ultimately used by suppliers to demonstrate they have met obligations or they must pay into a buy-out fund.

Athens-listed firm Metka SA, owner of 50.1% of the subsidiary, is a member of Mytilineos Group. The joint venture with Egnatia Group was established in October.
