The wind power sector in Greece strengthened significantly in 2014, Hellenic Wind Energy Association (Eletaen) reported.

Net installed capacity is 113.9 MW, slightly smaller than in 2013. In addition, on December 31 there was 246.5 MW in wind turbines registered to be built or already under construction, the report said.

The two categories combined demonstrate the growth potential and current prospects for investment, boosting employment and providing income at a critical period for the Greek economy, while also contributing to achieving the 2020 targets, Eletaen said.

The statistics showed installed wind farm capacity, active or in trial mode, was 1.98 GW, 6.5 percent more than a year before. The top producer was Terna Energy with 360.4 MW (18.2 percent), up from second position a year before and followed by EDF with 322.8 MW, Iberdrola Rokas (250.7), Enel Green Power (200.5), and Anemos (Ellaktor) with 162,9 MW.
