Power utility Elektroprivreda HZHB signed a contract with German engineering titan Siemens for the delivery and construction of 22 wind turbines worth EUR 72 million. Mesihovina facility, located in Bosnia and Herzegovina’s southwest, will have a capacity of 44 MW, according to the state-owned hydropower plant operator. It is the smallest of three state-controlled electricity holdings. Elektroprivreda HZHB said the substation will be installed by a consortium of ABB d.o.o. from Croatia and Elektrocentar Petek d.o.o. in a project worth another EUR 4 million.

KfW Development Bank of Germany funds the wind power plant with EUR 71 million and an additional EUR 1 million was donated by the government in Berlin, while the utility finances the remainder. Elektroprivreda HZHB expects the power plant to be completed by the end of the next year.

The documents were signed in hydropower plant Rama, at a ceremony after the phase of the refurbishment co-financed by Germany was finished. The eight-year project was funded by a donation from its government of EUR 7 million and KfW’s loan of EUR 10 million. The government of the Federation of BiH, one of two country’s entities, donated EUR 2.9 million and Elektroprivreda HZHB provided EUR 8.1 million.
