Nermin Džindić, entity minister of energy, mining and industry, stated the construction of the first hydropower unit in Bosnia and Herzegovina after 40 years would begin on April 1.

Portal Avaz.ba cited the official from the Government of the Federation of BiH saying the works will start on Vranduk facility, worth BAM 112.3 million (EUR 57.46 million). The project of state-controlled company Elektroprivreda Bosne i Hercegovine d. d. is for a capacity of 19 MW, or 96 GWh per year, the article adds. The endeavour is majority financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank.

The deadline for the launch is 46 months. The accumulation on the Bosna river will span six kilometres, while the dam will be 19 metres high and 120 metres long, according to the report.

Croatian company Končar – Power Plant and Electric Traction Engineering Inc. (Končar – Ket) signed a contract with the public utility in January as part of a consortium with Austrian Strabag AG, which dominates with a share of 63.4%. The deal includes design, manufacture and delivery of the electric equipment, with installation and initial operation.
