New boilers burn natural gas but there is also an option to switch to fuel oil in case of a shortage. The energy services provider inked the deal to supply heat but also to maintain the system and its network.

The operator of Zagreb Airport has signed a thermal energy outsourcing contract with Resalta doo. The energy efficiency contractor based in Slovenia said MZLZ doo is one of its largest clients so far. The two sides agreed a 20-year partnership, during which Resalta is taking over the supply of heat.

Apart from selling thermal energy, it provides all operations and maintenance services as well as nonstop customer service. The firm said it can expand the capacity as the client’s business grows.

The international airport in Velika Gorica, just outside Croatia’s capital city, commissioned another terminal in 2017. It handled 3.45 million passengers and 13,000 tons of cargo last year. The projected threshold for extensions is five million passengers, the full capacity now.

“Zagreb Airport carefully selected the outsourcing model of thermal energy production and invested time and effort in the preparation of the process, requiring high quality of heating supply so that all passengers, employees and guests in passenger terminals may feel comfortable. Resalta took over the responsibility of heating supply at Zagreb Airport and fulfilled our expectations in the delivery of high-quality service,” said Huseyin Bahadır Bedir, the client’s chief executive.

The company is providing a new boiler safety and regulation system. It fully financed the endeavor, where it retains ownership of the new equipment. The twenty-year energy supply contract covers equipment warranties and all associated guarantees, as well as regular servicing and intervention maintenance over the entire heat distribution network.

Resalta removed three of the four 2.3 MW boilers and installed new ones on natural gas: two of 4.2 MW each and one 6 MW boiler. One of the old ones was retained as a contingency solution for periods of peak demand.

MZLZ’s only obligation is a monthly payment for energy consumption. The thermal energy gear has the option to use fuel oil in order to overcome a potential gas supply issue.
