Croatian postal operator Hrvatska pošta has greened its fleet by procuring 20 new four-wheel electric vehicles to reduce air pollution and noise levels, according to a press release from the company.

In a bid to help improve energy efficiency in transportation, Hrvatska pošta applied for the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund’s (FZOEU) co-financing, and the FZOEU approved it, for the procurement of 20 electric quadricycles.

The value of the investment in the electric vehicle procurement is HRK 1.28 million (around EUR 170,000), and the FZOEU co-financed it with a HRK 400,000 (about EUR 53,000) grant.

By using quadricycles for delivery operations, Hrvatska pošta will reduce CO2 emissions by 7.5 tonnes annually

By introducing electric vehicles into its fleet, Hrvatska pošta is improving its mobility when delivering parcels in city centers and optimizing efficiency by gradually reducing the number of vehicles running on fossil fuels. At the same time, electric vehicles help reduce operating costs of the company’s fleet and improve its energy efficiency.

By using quadricycles for delivery operations, Hrvatska pošta will reduce CO2 emissions by 7.5 tonnes annually.

The four-wheel vehicles, produced by Italy’s Ducati Energia SpA, develop maximum speeds of 45 kph and can travel 60 km.

Practical features and ease of operation make these electric vehicles suitable for deliveries in city centers. The 20 new vehicles will help reduce air pollution and noise caused by city traffic.

In addition to the 20 new electric vehicles, Hrvatska pošta also has 180 electric bikes it procured in 2015 to replace old mopeds. By replacing mopeds with e-bikes, Hrvatska pošta cut its CO2 emissions by 100.31 tonnes annually. The procurement of e-bikes was also co-financed with a grant from the FZOEU.

Slovenian postal operator also greening its fleet

This is not the only example of a postal operator in the region greening its fleet. Last year, Slovenian state postal company Pošta Slovenije signed an agreement on business cooperation in the field of e-mobility and green next-generation delivery solutions with energy trader GEN-I, with the aim of fully electrifying its fleet.

On the other hand, Serbian state postal operator Pošta Srbije recently procured 257 delivery vehicles but none electric. All 257 vehicles are Fiat Doblo Cargo 1.3 MJT, according to a press release from Pošta Srbije.
