According to the Institute of Statistics (Instat), power generation in Albania and its sales abroad soared in the first six months of the year. Net domestic production of electrical energy increased by 59.4% to 3.75 TWh, compared to 2.35 TWh in the corresponding period of 2014.

A decrease of power imports by 54% was registered, with an increase of exports by 621% in comparison to the first half of last year, when Albania was a net importer of electrical energy. In the first six months of 2015 the country was able to export huge amounts due to the increase of production in public hydropower plants. Three quarters of power was produced by public facilities situated along the Drin river, while the rest was generated by private systems and concessionaires.
