The Mesići-Nova small hydropower plant (SHPP) near Rogatica, with an installed capacity of 5 MW, broke even on the BAM 10 million (EUR 5 million) investment after three and a half years of operation, said Ljubomir Mrda, director of Elektrodistribucija Pale, a subsidiary of power utility Elektroprivreda Republike Srpske (ERS).

SHPP Mesići-Nova was put into operation in 2015, after Elektrodistribucija Pale secured funds for the investment. The equipment for the power plant was delivered from the Czech Republic, Italy, Bulgaria, Serbia, Slovenia, and Croatia.

The production plan for the entire 2018 was practically met in the first five months of the year, thanks to the good hydrological conditions, Mrda said, the Srna news agency reported. Since the day the hydropower plant was put into operation, it has generated 96 GWh of electricity worth BAM 10,154,000 (EUR 5 million), Mrda noted.

He said that SHPP Mesići-Nova is a run-of-the-river hydropower plant with three units and a projected annual production of 23.5 GWh. The plant is operated by 30 employees.

SHPP Mesići-Nova should generate electricity for at least 70 years, which demonstrates the profitability of investments in the power sector, Mrda said.

Wow, impressive. Would be happy to have a more precise look at the numbers.
The number of 30 people employed, are probably part of the construction companies. During operations, for sure you do not need that many (and you would not be able to reach the pay back of 3,5 years). I also wonder whether all preparation costs were included (studies, permits), as well as some donated funding iin doing so. But all in all, impressive numbers!
