ORF Biodiversity (ORF-BD) is presenting its new publication, the Gender Based Review of the Key National Biodiversity Related Strategies and Reports in South-East Europe.

Building upon the IUCN EGI (Environment and Gender Information) Platform, ORF-BD assessed how women and gender equality considerations are addressed by South-East Europe (SEE) economies in their National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and their Fifth national reports to Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD).

The main findings show that the economies subject to this review (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Kosovo*, Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia) currently have a gender-blind approach in the process of developing the NBSAPs and CBD reports. NBSAPs are not yet addressing the needs of women, especially those living in rural areas. Significant progress in identifying, assessing and properly addressing the needs of women is needed.

ORF-BD encourages increased support from all partners at the national and international levels, including the CBD Secretariat, to improve gender-sensitive planning, implementation, and reporting.
