Romanian power utility Hidroelectrica is considering the acquisition of wind and solar plants in Romania, as well as energy companies abroad, CEO Bogdan Badea said, Romanian media reported.
According to ZiarulFinanciar, Hidroelectrica plans to open electricity trading office in Hungary. The biggest Romanian hydropower producer intends to inaugurate the office in Budapest, Hungary in September.
Due diligence for certain wind farms in Romania is ongoing. The idea is to diversify the state-owned company’s generation portfolio, in which green energy could be perfectly integrated, according to Badea. Hidroelectrica’s capacity enables it to provide balancing services, he was quoted as saying.
Hidroelectrica is also analyzing options to acquire companies outside Romania.
Hidroelectrica’s average annual electricity output is 17 TWh generated by 228 hydropower plants with an installed capacity of 3,444 MW.
