Podveležje wind farm project presented in Mostar by EP BiH

The Elektroprivreda BiH (EP BiH) power company organized a presentation of its project to build the Podveležje windfarm in Mostar. The new power production facility will be built using a loan from the German development bank KfW and EP BiH funds.

Representatives of the German company Fichtner helped EP BIH to present the project.

The total value of the project is estimated to stand at around 162 million Convertible Marks (EUR 81 million) with the KfW bank approving a loan of EUR 65 million and a grant of EUR 400,000 by the time of the presentation and the EP BiH securing the remaining EUR 17,864,600 to complete the project.

EP BiH officials told the presentation that the project is part of the power company’s development policy which will help with the economic development of the Mostar area. They said the project will be split into three stages, the first of which is underway, and added that the plan is to start producing electric energy in the Podveležje windfarm by mid-2019.

The EP BiH plan for the first stage is to draw up construction plans, procure 15 turbines of up to 3 MW and build the foundations and accompanying infrastructure for the wind farm. The second stage will see the construction of 30 110 kV substations and lay a high voltage cable along with a grounding network while the third stage will see the construction of local roads and platforms, the presentation was told.

The construction and reconstruction of local roads for the needs of the windfarm will be done by the consortium formed by HP Investing Mostar, Amitea Mostar and Izgradnja Tojaga Mostar. The ABB Zagreb company will set up the 30 110 kV substations and lay the high voltage cable system.

EP BiH officials could not specify the name of the company that will install the turbines because the tender for that stage is underway.

The EP BiH said on its website that the Ministry of Energy, Mining and Industry of the BiH Federation issued an energy permit on May 24, 2016, to the JP Elektroprivreda Bosne i Hercegovine – Sarajevo company for the construction of the Podveležje windfarm for an installed power of up to 48 MW, with a planned annual production of 115-119 GWh within the Mostar city area at the Podveležje site at Mali Grad and Sveta Gora.

The power permit was issued for the May 24, 2016 – May 24, 2019 period.
