Ljubljana ranked in top 100 sustainable world destination

Ljubljana is ranked again in top 100 sustainable world destination. This is the third time that the capital of Slovenia found itself in a prestigious “green” company whose membership is acquired through a competition organized by Green Destinations in cooperation with 20 other international organizations for sustainable development.

The first time Ljubljana was included in this list in 2014. Last year, when Ljubljana was handed over the title of European Green Capital 2016, the city was ranked in the top 100 sustainable destinations for the second time. Beside Ljubljana, all of Slovenian destinations holding the national Slovenia Green Destination quality mark were also ranked on the list, making Slovenia the country with most sustainable destinations in the world.

Other Slovenian destination that are included in the list are: Kamnik, Idrija, Rogla-Zreče, Radlje ob Dravi, Cerkno, Laško, Žalec, Celje, and this year’s new holders are: Nova Gorica, Brda, Kranjska Gora Maribor, Ptuj, Slovenj Gradec, Velenje i Bela krajina.

For the third time Sustainable Destinations Top 100 competition is organised by Green Destinations in cooperation with 20 other international organisations for sustainable tourism. The aim of the competition is to highlight success stories in destination management, and to exchange good practices between destinations.

Selection involves formal nomination by destination ambassadors and evaluation by a panel of some 100 international experts.

Green Destinations is a non-profit organisation for sustainable tourism. leading a global Partnership of expert organisations, companies and academic institutions, and the Green Destinations Community of destination representatives and stakeholders.
