Montenegrin Power Distribution System (CEDIS), which operates as distribution system operator, will invest EUR 78 million in the development and maintenance of the electricity distribution network in the country in the next three years, Montenegrin media reported.
According to three-year investment plan, CEDIS will continue the installation of smart electric meters, the construction of new electricity facilities, the reconstruction of the distribution network, as well as the optimization of the labour force and trainings for employees.
In the upcoming period, CEDIS employees will mostly work in Ulcinj and Herceg Novi, due to the growing electricity demand in these areas caused by the construction of a large number of tourist and residential-business facilities, the company representatives told Dnevne Novine.
“In September, the construction of the 35/10 kV Novi Ulcinj transmission substation will start. The project worths more than EUR 2 million. The works on the 35 kV cable line from the 35/10 kV Kumbor substation to the new 35/10 kV Klinci substation have been completed, including installation of the 1,000 km long submarine section of the cable,” CEDIS stated.
Founded last year
As an independent company, CEDIS was founded at the end of June last year. It was formally separated from the parent company Elektroprivreda Crne Gore (EPCG), which still owns 100 percent of CEDIS shares.
The company representative reminded that the establishment of CEDIS represents an act of the Montenegrin state done with the aim to harmonize with the EU directive and added that domestic regulations have been also aligned with it, i.e. the Energy Law. Directive prescribes that activity of the electricity distribution system operator is performed only by the independent legal entity which does not perform any other energy activities.
CEDIS distributes electricity to 370,000 consumers in Montenegro and has more than 1,300 employees.
