Turkey has decided to privatize 10 hydro power plants (HPP) with total capacity of 256.4 MW, currently owned by the Electricity Generation Company (EUAS).

The final offers for the state-owned hydro plants are to be submitted in August, according to the High Privatization Board (OYK) ‘s website, the Anadolu agency’s Energy terminal reported.

Deadline for initial offers for the HPP Dinar 2, capacity of 3 MW, in Afyonkarahisar in the central Anatolia region is August 14, while the deadline for HPP Manyas, capacity of 20 MW, in the Marmara province is set to be August 21.

Bids for five HPPs – Cine, Sucati, Degirmendere, Karacay and Kuzuculu, of total capacity of 55.4 MW, need to be submitted by August 23-24. They will be privatized as a group.

The HPPs Menzelet and Kilavuzlu with total capacity of 178 MW will be put out to tender for the second time since the last year’s attempt to privatise them has failed. The highest offer submitted at last year’s tender was TRY 1.25 billion or EUR 304 million. There is no official explanation why those two HPP’s in southeastern Turkey are put out to tender again.

The share of HPPs in total installed capacity in Turkey which has reached of 80,000 MW, amounts to 27,000 MW while 25 percent of electricity in Turkey was produced in HPPs in 2016.
