The GIZ Open Regional Fund for South-East Europe – Energy Efficiency (ORF-EE), in collaboration with GIZ bilateral projects Promotion of Energy Efficiency in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Kosovo Energy Efficiency Project, hosted in the period of  June 21-23  a knowledge exchange study visit in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The visit included participation of representatives of ministries, agencies, municipal associations, municipalities and other institutions responsible for energy, energy efficiency and climate protection in Kosovo* and Albania.

The goal of this activity was transfer of best practices on the application of energy efficiency measures and relevant instruments, such as the MVP (Monitoring and Verification Platform) and ENMA Soft (Energy Management System), from Bosnia and Herzegovina to Kosovo* and Albania.

The overall focus of this exchange was on the improvement of the situation in the energy and climate sector in individual countries, but also in the entire region of South-East Europe (SEE). Regional exchange and sector reforms go hand in hand with EU regulations and directives that these SEE countries have committed themselves to implementing as members of the Energy Community.

Participants of the study visit were introduced to positive energy efficiency examples already implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina, such as the Municipality of Zenica where the ENMA Soft, as developed by the GIZ in cooperation with partners, is in active use as an important energy management instrument. Other examples included a visit to the small hydro-power plant (SHPP) Čajdraš and the biomass plant Nemila, both of which meet EU energy and environment requirements and standards.

During the visit to Bosnia and Herzegovina, it was agreed that the ENMA software will be transferred for use to the countries of Kosovo* and Albania. Further agreement referred to organization of a training on the use of the software for representatives of Kosovo* and Albania by the Zenica Development Agency (ZEDA).

Dubravka Bošnjak, GIZ ORF-EE Project Manager stated on the occasion that the visit was organized in the context of regional cooperation and strengthening of bilateral cooperation in line with requirements of the Energy Community. “It will enhance cooperation between institutions and ensure the transfer of knowledge in the field of energy efficiency from one country to another,” she further highlighted.
