This year’s H-Bridges team from the School of Electrical Engineering at the University of Belgrade in Serbia is pursuing another victory at the most prestigious global contest for students in innovation, conservation, and effective use of electrical energy.

H-Bridges has kept its position among the heavyweights in the global ring. At the semifinals in Los Angeles, it crossed to the last phase of the world’s most renowned competition in the design of power electronic systems – IEEE International Future Energy Challenge (IFEC).

The team of students from the School of Electrical Engineering (ETF) at the University of Belgrade in Serbia won two times: in 2005 and 2019. In both of the last two rounds, it reached second place. The competition is organized by IEEE, a global association of electrical and electronics engineers. It is based in New Jersey in the United States.

The competition is unique as the students must work independently on all aspects of the project, this year’s team from Serbia’s ETF said. It encompasses everything from initial development to the finalization of project design and includes securing the necessary finances and material resources.

The final phase will be held at UT Austin in July

The task this time is a class D audio amplifier with a power of 400 W, two stereo channels and one subwoofer channel. This one is more energy efficient than conventional devices, has better sound quality and the frequency span and less weight, H-Bridges stressed.

The team opted for a fully digital implementation that allows a reduction in size and eases communication with the user.

The semifinals were held in California’s biggest city and within the Applied Power Electronics Conference, the biggest of its kind in the world. The representatives of H-Bridges told us that they succeeded in getting into the finals again against strong competition.

They will be held in July at the University of Texas at Austin (UT Austin). The Serbian team will compete against students from Germany, the US, Taiwan and China.
