Local power generation covers 68.1% of demand in June

Gross national electricity production participated with 68.1% in gross electricity consumption in Macedonia in June, according to data of the State Statistical Office.

Hydropower plants produced 55.2% of total electricity generation, thermal power plants covered 41.7%, wind parks produced 1.7%, while electricity output for solar and biogas power plants was 0.7% of the gross power generation.

Total consumption by types of energy commodities was 537.4 GWh of electricity, 3.75 million cubic meters of natural gas, 281,551 tonnes of coal and 114,698 tonnes of petroleum products, while 91.1% of the total national consumption of coal was used for electricity generation, statistical data show.

In the first half of the year, the average electricity retail price for households in Macedonia was MKD 5.02 (eight euro cents) per kilowatt-hour, a decrease of 1.65% compared to the last six months of 2015. The average price for the industry was between five and 13 euro cents without taxes.
