Romania’s biggest solar power plant to be built by INTEC-CHINT consortium

INTEC Energy Solutions and CHINT Solar have been awarded the contract to build the largest solar power plant in Romania, with an installed capacity of 154 MW. The contract was awarded by renewable energy investor, developer and operator Ecoenergy.

The ground-mounted Rateşti solar power plant is expected to generate 124 GWh a year, cutting carbon emissions by some 160,000 tons annually, according to a press release from INTEC. The facility is located in Arges County in southern Romania.

According to earlier reports, Econergy and Nofar Energy bought the Rateşti project from real estate investor Portland Trust last summer.

Under the contract, the INTEC-CHINT consortium will provide all the necessary services and works related to the design, engineering, procurement, construction, and high-voltage grid connection of the Rateşti solar power plant.

INTEC specializes in Engineering, Procurement & Construction (EPC) and Operations and Maintenance (O&M) services. It operates in several countries and has successfully delivered more than 130 projects, totaling 1.7 GW.

INTEC’s past partnerships with CHINT have included the construction of a 328 MW solar power plant in Denmark, according to INTEC CEO Adrien Joseph.

CHINT Solar manufactures photovoltaic modules, but also develops investment and construction plans for solar power stations, energy storage, electricity distribution networks, micro-grids, and multi-energy complementation. Its total installed photovoltaic capacity around the world has reached 8 GW.

According to a report on Romania’s power market outlook published last October, the country’s solar capacity is expected to grow to 4.25 GW by 2030, from 1.39 GW in 2020.
